While much of Russia’s media continue to be controlled by the state, the country has also developed in recent years a powerful strand of independent investigative journalism with a strong sense of corporate solidarity and large readership.
In-depth investigative journalism guarantees transparency and criticism in society. Journalistic stories reveal issues that would otherwise remain hidden and give a voice to those who are rarely heard. BOZAR and KU Leuven invite four prominent journalists working in leading Russian and international media to discuss current challenges of investigative journalism in Russia and Europe together with VRT journalist and Russia expert Jan Balliauw.

HET EVENEMENT IS GEANNULEERD
Jammer genoeg zullen BOZAR en het Centrum voor Russische Studies het evenement De 4e macht, pijler van de democratie op 26 november moeten annuleren. Twee van onze sprekers, Ivan Golunov en Svetlana Reiter, zijn verhinderd. Ivan Golunov werd op 26 november onverwacht opgeroepen voor een rechtszitting. De lopende rechtszaak is tegen het niet-handelen van de onderzoeker in verband met het onderzoek naar het optreden van de politie tijdens de onwettige arrestatie van Golunov, afgelopen zomer.
BOZAR en het Centrum voor Russische Studies zullen het evenement op een later tijdstip (tbc) opnieuw organiseren. Als je al tickets voor dit evenement hebt gekocht, ontvang je een e-mail van onze box office om je tickets terug betaald te krijgen, of te laten inwisselen voor een voucher.
Hoewel een groot deel van de Russische media in handen van de staat blijft, is in het land de afgelopen jaren ook een krachtige onafhankelijke journalistiek opgestaan, met een sterk gevoel voor solidariteit en maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid, en grote aantallen lezers.
Diepgaande onderzoeksjournalistiek garandeert transparantie en een kritische blik op de samenleving. Echte journalistiek duikt onder de huid van problemen die anders verborgen zouden blijven, en geeft een stem aan zij die vaak niet gehoord worden. Het Centrum voor Russische Studies en BOZAR nodigen prominente onderzoeksjournalisten Ivan Golunov (Meduza), Svetlana Reiter (BBC Russia) en Olesya Shmagun (Novaja Gazeta) uit naar Brussel. VRT-journalist en Ruslandkenner Jan Balliauw bespreekt met hen de uitdagingen waar de onderzoeksjournalistiek zowel in Rusland als in Europa mee te maken krijgt.

На лекции слушатели узнали :
- почему Гражданская война в России до сих пор становится поводом для дискуссий,
- какова верная датировка Гражданской войны,
- кто стоял во главе белого движения,
- почему белых не поддержали крестьяне,
- что противопоставили белые красным, когда те отменили частную собственность,
- почему и когда крестьяне начали оказывать сопротивление красноармейцам,
- какой белые видели Россию в случае их победы,
- как ответили красные на лозунг белых «единая и неделимая»,
- почему в составе белого движения не было единства.
Андрей Михайлов - один из наших постоянных лекторов. За два года он рассказал об известных исторических личностях, образы которых использовали в качестве пропаганды в Советском Союзе во время Великой Отечественной войны, об окончании Первой мировой войны и подготовке к новой войне, о военном образовании и повседневной жизни офицеров в XIX-XX вв. и о крахе Наполеона.
