La République de Kalmoukie est une république autonome de la Fédération de Russie, elle est située sur la Mer Caspienne entre le Daghestan et les Provinces (Oblast) d’Astrakhan, Volgograd, Rostov et Stavropol.
C’est le seul état bouddhiste en Europe. La capitale Elista possède un Palais des jeux d’échecs.
Le pays comporte un peu moins de 300.000 habitants et 2,5 millions de moutons.
Les kalmoukes sont généralement des descendants de mongoles nomades arrivés dans cette région au 17e siècle.
Het ensemble Oiraty brengt ons een spetterend spektakel met dans en muziek, die aansluit bij de oorspronkelijke muzikale cultuur van de Oirat mongolen, enigszins beïnvloed door de Kaukasische en Russische muziek. Het traditionele instrument is de "Dombra" dat gebruikt wordt om de dansen te begeleiden. De kostuums zijn uitzonderlijk fraai en getuigen van het epos van dit volk, hun glansrijke tocht doorheen de geschiedenis van het Russische imperium en de vastberadenheid om hun boeddhistische wortels te behouden.

La dance et la musique ont leurs racines dans la culture musicale d’Oirats-Mongole, légèrement in%uencée par la musique
caucasienne et russe. L’instrument traditionnel « dombra » accompagne les danses. Les costumes exceptionnels des danseurs témoignent de l’épopée de ce peuple qui voyagea au +l de l’histoire dans l’empire russe tout en préservant ses racines bouddhistes.
The National Ballet Oiraty. Kalmukian dance and music is rooted in the culture of the Mongol Oirats, but slightly in%uenced by Russian and Caucasian music. The traditional instrument, the "dombra" accompanies their dances. The exceptionally beautiful costumes witness the epos of this people, the original riches and traditions across the Russian history and their will to preserve the Buddhist religion

Рассказы о людях, с которыми его сводила судьба, или о событиях, которым он был свидетелем, а иной раз даже их участником, не дадут читателю заскучать.
Знаю, что никогда не сяду за мемуары: не та биография. С другой стороны, как ни крути, а за прожитые мною годы, из которых большая часть прошла в Киргизии, а меньшая – в Штатах, найдется что и кого вспомнить (а также – кого и что забыть). Сюжетов – пусть
не на целый роман, но уж на пару-тройку киносценариев наскрести мог бы легко...
