Literary Cafe. 100th anniversary of Daniil Granin. « Vanquisher of the storm ».
On January 17, a regular meeting will take place at the Literary Cafe of our Center. This time it will be dedicated to the life and work of Daniil Granin. This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of this outstanding writer. During the meeting, a photo exhibition dedicated to the writer will be opened, excerpts from films based on the works of Daniil Granin and video documents about his life and work will be demonstrated. Together with the exhibition curator Nadezhda Aleksandrova and representatives of the Daniil Granin Foundation, we will hold a discussion on “The Blockade Book”, which caused a great resonance in the society.

Opening of the photo exhibition «Chronicle of the Great Siege» dedicated to the 75th anniversary of lifting the siege of Leningrad
On January 27, 1944 Leningrad for the first time during the war saluted to the winners. 24 artillery salvos from 324 guns hammered away over the triumphant city. The siege suffocating the city for 872 days – from September 8, 1941 till January 27, 1944 – was over. The Siege of Leningrad is an unparalleled event in the world history. No other large city, especially a metropolis with nearly 3 million people, could stand such a long-lasting siege – over two years and a half. No other city of the world lost so many civilians: children, women, and old people. Unfortunately, even now historians are not able to count the exact number of the siege victims.

Fascinante musique russe ! Composé en 1904, le Concerto pour violon de Glazounov est un bijou dont l’archet apollinien de Vadim Rapin promet d’enchanter l’élégante virtuosité de l’écriture. Mais la musique russe chante aussi les passions extrêmes de l’homme. Peu d’œuvres émeuvent aussi profondément que la Symphonie n°6 de Tchaïkovski, bouleversante confession musicale qui culmine dans un vaste lamento tragique. La Pathétique fut composée en pleurant de l’aveu même du compositeur. La citation d’un choral orthodoxe a fait dire que le compositeur avait écrit là son propre requiem.

De Nationale Opera van Rusland ™ presenteert ‘Hoffmanns Vertellingen’, ballet in drie bedrijven als bewerking van de opera van de bekende componist Jacques Offenbach.
Geïnspireerd op de verhalen van de Duitse romantische dichter E.T.A. Hoffmann, vertelt dit fantastische werk over de amoureuze mislukkingen van de dichter, tegelijk verteller en held. Drie dramatische passies, drie ontoegankelijke vrouwen: Olympia, een mechanische pop, Antonia, een aan tering lijdende zangeres, en Giulietta, een hebzuchtige verleidster. Elk van deze liefdesverhalen wordt gedwarsboomd door de destructieve tussenkomst van een slecht karakter.
Zal Hoffmann, tussen droom en werkelijkheid en voortdurend misleid, het vertrouwen in zichzelf terugvinden? Zal het hem, van Munchen tot Venetië, lukken om zich los te maken van zijn zotte liefdes om zijn creatieve kracht terug te vinden?
De dansers en koorleden brengen, begeleid door een orkest, een nieuwe choreografische versie die het briljante meesterwerk van Offenbach trouw ensceneert. Onder de onvermijdelijke muziekstukken is er de onnavolgbare ‘Barcarolle’, die de toeschouwer in het tegelijk magische als ongelukkige universum, van deze verloren dichter leidt.
Het Ballet en het Orkest van de Russische Nationale Opera presenteren "Hoffmanns Vertellingen", ballet in drie bedrijven naar de verhalen van de Duitse romantische dichter.
Dit niet classificeerbare werk, zowel grappig en dramatisch, vertelt de amoureuze mislukkingen van Hoffmann, tegelijk verteller en held. Drie tijdperken, drie passies, drie vrouwen: Olympia, Antonia en Giulietta. Elk van deze liefdesverhalen wordt gedwarsboomd door de destructieve tussenkomst van een slecht karakter. Zal Hoffmann, tussen droom en werkelijkheid, de ideale vrouw en het vertrouwen in zichzelf vinden?
Dit fantastische verhaal wordt in deze nieuwe choreografische versie getrouw verteld.
De door Offenbach gecomponeerde aria’s uit dit populaire werk, uitgevoerd door het orkest, illustreren perfect de magie van deze show. De dansers tillen zich met ongekende lichtheid naar duizelingwekkende hoogtes om alle emoties van de dichter, op zoek naar de ware liefde, te brengen. Dit ballet neemt het publiek mee naar een zowel vrolijke als nostalgische fantasiewereld.
