Octobre 17 fut la référence politique et culturelle centrale de l’époque soviétique. Cent ans après, la société russe reste toujours profondément divisée face à son passé. Le centenaire de la révolution sera-t-il ce grand moment de réconciliation nationale souhaité par le pouvoir russe ?
Présenté comme l’aboutissement de l’Histoire mais aussi comme le début d’une ère nouvelle, Octobre 17 fut la référence politique et culturelle centrale de l’époque soviétique. Seule la Victoire de la Seconde Guerre mondiale parvint non pas à détrôner la « Grande Révolution socialiste d’Octobre », mais à la concurrencer. Le 7 novembre, le jour où les bolcheviks prirent le pouvoir, resta néanmoins la plus importante fête officielle.

During the Soviet era, October 1917 was the central political and cultural reference. One hundred years later, Russian society is still deeply divided over its past. Will the centenary of the Revolution be the great moment of national reconciliation the Russian power wants it to be?
Presented as the culmination of history but also as the beginning of a new era, October 1917 was the central political and cultural reference of the Soviet era. Only the Victory of World War II managed not to supersede the “Great October Socialist Revolution”, but to compete with it in terms of its importance. November 7—the day the Bolsheviks took power—nevertheless remained the most important official holiday.
