Monoammonium phosphate solution is treated, preferably at ordinary temperature and with agitation, with a solution of magnesium bicarbonate to precipitate magnesium-ammonium phosphate which may be filtered and dried. The solution of monoammonium phosphate may be obtained by decomposing natural tricalcium phosphate with sulphuric acid of 15-16 DEG B<\>ae, and treating the solution with aqueous or gaseous ammonia.
