Alexander Scriabin, Mysterium

PROGRAM
Prefatory Action to Mysterium, arr. Alexander Nemtin (Belgian Premiere)
Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin
At 7 pm, you can attend an introduction by David Ramael in the Léger tent just outside of the Centre for Fine Arts upon presentation of a ticket for this concert. The introduction will be held in French and in Dutch.

Music that plays non-stop for days, a light show, smoke and scent effects, and all that within a Himalayan sanctuary. This is what the brilliant yet utopian composer Alexander Scriabin had envisaged with Mysterium. Not only should the spectacle emotionally entrance participants and audience, but it should also start the process to lift all of humanity spiritually and herald the apocalyptic end of the world. Scriabin was always stubbornly convinced that art had the power to change the world. But the Russian never completed his megolamaniac project. However, Scriabin’s compatriot Alexander Nemtim later developed the sketches for Mysterium into a fully-fledged piece. By bringing this work to the stage combined with a unique lighting design, we turn Scriabin’s dream of a comprehensive spectacle into a bit of reality.
