Translating russian literature in the global context
We are actively seeking essays for a new, Open Access volume which is aimed at stimulating and consolidating scholarship about the global imprint of Russian literature in translation. See below for more details.
Scholars with expertise in English Studies, Modern Languages including Russian Studies, Comparative Literature, and Translation Studies are invited to submit essays for a new edited volume on the global translation and reception of Russian literary fiction in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Translating Russian Literature in the Global Context (2023) is intended to constitute the first geographically coherent, culturally inclusive, and theoretically consistent model of the distribution and influence of translated Russian literature on global cultures from 1900 to the present day. Given that many leading studies in this field have privileged Russian cultural transmission in Britain and/or Russian influence on British writers (May 1994; Kaye 1999; Beasley and Bullock 2013; Beasley 2020), the editors particularly invite new scholarship on the transmission of Russian culture and on intertextualities between specific Russian writers and non-Anglophone literatures. We envisage selecting up to 20 essays for our Open Access publication, which will be funded by the European Research Council under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme in connection with the University of Exeter-based RusTrans Project (www.rustrans.exeter.ac.uk), Grant Agreement no. 802437.

Мы приглашаем исследователей, специализирующихся в одной или нескольких сферах научной деятельности: англоязычная литература, иностранные языки, русистика, сравнительное литературоведение и / или переводоведение – для участия в публикации сборника, посвященного глобальному переводу и восприятию русской художественной литературы в XX–XXI вв. «Перевод русской литературы в мировом контексте» (2023 г.) призван создать первую последовательную и методологически обоснованную модель, демонстрирующую географическое распространение и влияния переводов русской литературы на мировую культуру с начала ХХ века до наших дней. Поскольку рецепции русской культуры в Британии, а также влиянию русских писателей на британских авторов уделялось довольно пристальное внимание (May 1994; Kaye 1999; Beasley and Bullock 2013; Beasley 2020), мы особенно приветствуем работы, посвященные неанглоязычной рецепции русской культуры и интертекстуальным связям текстов неанглоязычных авторов с произведениями русской литературы. Мы планируем отобрать до 20 статей, которые будут опубликованы в формате Open Access. Gradually, the Kremlin went from a policy of deference to foreign powers to acting with independence. The driver of this transformation was President Vladimir Putin, who with skillful caution navigated Russia back into the ranks of global powers. In theaters of conflict such as Georgia, Syria and Ukraine, the Kremlin won significant victories at little cost to consolidate its decisive position. Following a chronological approach from the fall of the Soviet Union to the present, this book draws on new documents to describe how Russia regained its former global prominence, with clear accounts of key decisions and foreign policy events--many presented for the first time--and important insights into the major confrontations with the West.
Rene De La Pedraja lived in Latin America for many years, researching and writing numerous publications. He is a professor of history at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.
